To ensure that Microsoft meet performance expectations, they are updating the supported versions of Outlook for Windows that can connect to Microsoft 365 services.
From November 1, 2021, the following versions of Outlook for Windows, as part of Office and Microsoft 365 Apps, were no longer able to connect with Office 365 and Microsoft 365 services.
If organisations do not update, they may over time, encounter performance or reliability issues. Organisations that use these older clients will almost certainly face an increased security risk and may find themselves out of compliance depending upon specific regional or industry requirements. Therefore, administrators should update older Office clients to versions of Office supported for connecting to Microsoft 365 services.

A free upgrade to Windows 11 will begin rolling out to eligible Windows 10 PCs and PCs that come pre-loaded with Windows 11 will start to become available for users to easily buy. The free upgrade starts on October 5 and will be phased and measured. New eligible devices will be offered the upgrade first. The upgrade will then roll out over time to in-market devices based on intelligence models that consider hardware eligibility, reliability metrics, age of device and other factors that impact the upgrade experience. Microsoft expect all eligible devices to be offered the free upgrade by mid-2022.

Last week, Microsoft shared a new remote code execution vulnerability in Windows, that has been using the Windows Print Spooler. A remote code execution vulnerability exists when the Windows Print Spooler service improperly performs privileged file operations. An attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability could run arbitrary code with SYSTEM privileges. An attacker could then install programs; view, change, or delete data; or create new accounts with full user rights. The vulnerability is actively removed and Microsoft published two workarounds to protect systems from being attacked.
Microsoft have provided two suggestions: to disable the Print Spooler service or to disable inbound remote printing using the Group Policy.
Determine if the Print Spooler service is running
Run the following:
Get-Service -Name Spooler
If the Print Spooler is running or if the service is not set to disabled, select one of the following options to either disable the Print Spooler service, or to Disable inbound remote printing through Group Policy:
Option 1 - Disable the Print Spooler service
If disabling the Print Spooler service is appropriate for your enterprise, use the following PowerShell commands:
Stop-Service -Name Spooler -Force
Set-Service -Name Spooler -StartupType Disabled
Impact of workaround Disabling the Print Spooler service disables the ability to print both locally and remotely.
Option 2 - Disable inbound remote printing through Group Policy
You can also configure the settings via Group Policy as follows:
Computer Configuration / Administrative Templates / Printers
Disable the “Allow Print Spooler to accept client connections:” policy to block remote attacks.
You must restart the Print Spooler service for the group policy to take effect.
Impact of workaround This policy will block the remote attack vector by preventing inbound remote printing operations. The system will no longer function as a print server, but local printing to a directly attached device will still be possible.

With end-to-end webinar support that’s as simple as setting up a Teams meeting—including custom registration pages and attendee emails, rich presentation options, host controls, such as the ability to disable attendee chat and video, and post-event reporting to understand participation and to follow up with attendees.
Having a webinar with more than 1,000 attendees? Teams meetings can seamlessly scale to accommodate a 10,000-person view-only broadcast experience. With a huge increase of working from home, Microsoft have now expanded the attendee limit to 20,000 through the end of this year.
Delivering impactful and more engaging presentations in a polished and professional way is more do-able than ever with PowerPoint Live and Presenter mode in Microsoft Teams.
Presenters can feel more capable and confident during presentations by bringing together Microsoft’s rich history with presenter experiences in PowerPoint and the collaboration power of Teams.
Attendees are able to personalise their experience by privately navigating the content at their own pace or using high contrast mode and screen readers to make content accessible.
Using Presenter mode, presenters are able to customise how their video feed and content is shown to the audience. The first of three options, Standout mode, shows the speaker’s video feed as a silhouette in front of the shared content; Reporter mode shows content as a visual aid above the speaker’s shoulder, similar to a news broadcast; and Side-by-side mode shows presenter’s video feed alongside their content as they present. Standout mode is now available as of the end of May, and Reporter and Side-by-side will roll out shortly after.
After the event ends, easily access reporting to bring attendee information into your customer relationship management (CRM) applications for lead management and follow-up is important. At the beginning of May, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Marketing customers can export attendee data directly from Teams to automatically create campaigns and customer journeys for ongoing nurture streams. The Microsoft Teams and Microsoft Dynamics 365 Marketing integration gives webinar hosts more ways to drive engagement, increase conversion, and build loyalty with your attendees.

Meetings & Webinars:
Microsoft has began to offer live transcription in the Microsoft Teams platform for English (US). This feature allows a written record of the spoken text that happens during a meeting. Each speaker is clearly identified whilst speech is captured automatically in real-time which can be accessed during and after the teams meeting.
Meeting recap is available once a meeting is over in the form of a recording, transcript, attached files and chat. This recap is available in the Details Tab and can be shared with participants of the meeting. People who have joined the meeting late, or missed it can have access to this at any time.
Meet Now in Outlook client for Windows
From the Calendar tab in Outlook for windows, you can now start a Teams meeting instantly by clicking the Meet Now button. For this to work, admins need to set the Allow Private Meet Now policy option to True in their admin console area.
Get a Meet Now meeting link from the Calendar
To share a meeting with others quickly, you can simply copy the Meet Now link from your Calendar before the meeting starts. This is a quick and easy way to paste the link into chat, text and also emails.
New bypass lobby option
With the new Microsoft updates, certain groups of users are able to join meetings directly and bypass meeting lobbies with the new policies. "People in my organisation" and "People in my organisation, trusted organisation and guests." This gives users another level of security and flexibility when using Teams.
