RAPID is built entirely in .NET and sits on top of Microsoft Content Management Server 2002 (MCMS). It works with both Standard and Enterprise Editions of MCMS and provides enhancements over and above the core product, yet leveraging all the assets and capability of this market-leading content management platform.
The benefits of using RAPID relative to the core product only are summarised as follows:
- Production-quality Solution Sites
Currently shipping with a site called RAPIDOrange but with other sites planned, RAPID provides a high quality starting point for MCMS projects. The sites tick all the right boxes such as accessibility, rich features, search integration, multilinguality-aware etc
- Developer Framework
RAPID was originally built as a way to speed up development at Artemis and based on learnings from tens of MCMS projects successfully delivered. The rendering framework is at the heart of the solution and it completely abstracts content and presentation via a sophisticated system of controls, XML templates, XSLT transforms and CSS styling. Everything is pretty much overridable and extensible and the full source code is available through the partner programme or customer source code access agreements.
- Site Editor Enhancements
RAPID fixes some of the gaps in the core product with respect to the authoring process, such as providing out of the box email notification, a new field called 'review date', extensive metadata capability including public-sector style taxonomies and many others.
