Adepteq were engaged by Torchbox in 2007 to provide the SharePoint expertise to develop the existing SharePoint Portal Server Intranet at The Waste & Resources Action Programme (WRAP). This relationship has continued with Adepteq becoming their preferred partner for SharePoint development and support.
WRAP recently reviewed their Intranet and considered creating a new Intranet based on Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS) 2007 as they wanted to provide users with an easily navigable solution that could be readily updated. Considering the internal changes WRAP is undergoing, when their Microsoft agreement is due for renewal and that SharePoint 2010 is around the corner they decided to completely refresh the current Intranet.
The current Intranet had become difficult for users to navigate and because of this was not being as well used as WRAP hoped. Adepteq were engaged to create a new Intranet with a completely new method of navigation that would display the existing content in a new and fresh format.
Adepteq ensured the migration of the existing SharePoint site templates, custom SharePoint web parts and shared services including user profiles, search settings and indexing configuration across to a new web application. This allowed for development to take place on the production environment while ensuring that the existing SharePoint intranet application ran side by side to aide content refresh and authoring once the new site had been developed.
Following user acceptance testing the site was switched over with good staff feedback and increased usage.
About WRAP:
Established as a not-for-profit company in 2000, WRAP is backed by government funding from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. WRAP are focussing on four priority areas and by focussing on these four areas, and working with our partners we aim to:
- Divert 8 million tonnes of waste materials from landfill
- Save 5 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent emissions
- Generate £1.1 billion of economic benefits to business, local authorities and consumers
Packaging - The manufacture and disposal of packaging is of great concern to consumers and policy makers alike.
Food waste - Every tonne of food waste prevented has the potential to save 4.5 tonnes of CO2 equivalent.
Collection systems - We aim to help local authorities maximise the potential of a well designed collection system to meet recycling targets and respond to the demands of the public.
Quality of materials - We continue working on benchmarking the costs and efficiency of local authority recycling collection systems.
