The RSC had identified a business improvement requirement to develop a new Intranet to replace their existing Intranet and had identified SharePoint as the platform to deliver this on. RSC would also like to take advantage of the other benefits offered by SharePoint in the future so want to ensure the initial project is properly executed. SharePoint experience within RSC is limited so they were looking for external help and guidance to ensure the Intranet project is delivered successfully.
With this in mind the RSC contacted Adepteq and following an initial conversation, invited us to provide a proposal (based on a project outline document prepared by RSC). Adepteq were then invited to discuss their proposal and present the Adepteq SharePoint deployment methodology to the project team.
Once engaged by RSC, the project kicked off with a SharePoint familiarisation workshop, where the team members were given an overview of how SharePoint works and what is achievable. This workshop identified and discussed the process chosen for streamlining, then also covered Site structure, Governance, SharePoint Security and Permissions.
Our solution is based on assisting the RSC in installing, configuring, developing and training in Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS) 2007.
All work was carried out by Adepteq’s Microsoft Certified staff and has provided RSC with:
- An agreed structure for the Intranet
- An Intranet with an attractive, clean and simple theme (based on Pages rather than Sites)
- Access via the new Intranet to all the content available on the existing Intranet
- Integration with RSC Active Directory
- An easily updated and managed Intranet solution
- An understanding of administration and permissions
- An electronic process that replaces an existing paper based administration task (in this case an HR workflow for Abscence management)
- The knowledge and capability for key staff to be able to change the sites if required and to add content to the sites
Knowledge transfer continued throughout the project as the RSC want to be able to take advantage of the other benefits SharePoint brings to the organisation without the need for further consultation.
SharePoint Training for Users, Content Owners and Administrators was provided by Adepteq to assist RSC with initial testing prior to the launch.
Adepteq have provided Support for the initial developments and now a formal Best Practice & Guidance support agreement will be signed which will cover the Intranet and any further development they undertake internally.
